One Person Killed in Cumberland County Vehicle Accident

CarCrash

Cumberland County, TN (August 5, 2020) A man was killed in a single vehicle accident in Cumberland County on the morning of August 5th. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that a Ford Ranger was traveling south near the 15,000 block of Genesis Road when the driver ran off the road and overcorrected. The vehicle then went across the road and off the left side, ending up in a ditch, where it then overturned and collided with a tree. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that among the 37,133 people killed in motor vehicle accidents in 2017 47% were not wearing seatbelts. Even for motorists who wear their seatbelts, however, it is still important to follow other safety regulations while traveling Tennessee’s roads.

How to Avoid Overcorrection Car Accidents

When drivers are startled into overcorrecting their vehicle’s wheel, it is common for accidents to occur. Fortunately there are some safety steps that drivers should follow if they find their vehicle slowly beginning to go off the road. Rather than overcorrect the wheel, drivers should follow the following steps:

  • If your vehicle pulls to the right or left, resist this by holding onto the steering wheel and driving straight. Do not attempt to steer to the side.
  • Slowly ease up on the gas by taking your foot off the accelerator. Continue driving straight as the vehicle slows down. If you must, you can gradually press down on the brake as well.
  • Allow the vehicle to slow down until it’s safe to move all of the vehicles back onto the pavement.
