Knoxville Worker Dies After Falling Off Roof
Knoxville, TN (August 12, 2020) A Knoxville man died on August 12th after falling from the second story of a new home that was under construction. According to the police report, Maryville Police and Maryville Fire workers responded to the call early on Wednesday morning. Law enforcement workers found the man dead at the scene. A witness later told law enforcement workers that the worker was tarping a wall on the home’s second story while walking backwards. This led the worker to lose his footing while he was close to the edge of the wall and falling to the ground.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reports that one in five worker deaths occur at construction sites.
Common Causes of Construction Accidents

This is because construction sites are one of the most dangerous types of job sites. Sometimes, employers or supervisors fail to adhere to safety standards, which greatly increase the chances that accidents will occur. Some of the most common types of construction accidents include:
- Back injuries from moving heavy objects
- Chemical burns
- Electric shock and electrocution
- Falls from elevated heights
- Gas explosions
- Heavy objects that fall on workers
- Limbs that become caught in equipment
- Trench collapses
- Tripping over heavy equipment
