Interstate 640 and Interstate 75 Temporarily Closed Due to Overturned Tractor-Trailer

Knoxville, TN (December 9, 2020) The Knoxville Police Department on December 9th informed motorists that the eastbound and westbound exit ramps from Interstate 640 to Interstate 75 are temporarily closed as the result of an overturned tractor-trailer. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes until the area could be fully cleaned, but an estimate of when the clean up will be finished is not clear.

One of the most common reasons why wrong way driver accidents occur is that drivers are not familiar with the roads on which they are traveling. This is a common occurrence when traffic is diverted. If you are a motorist who is not sure of the path on which you are traveling, it is a good idea to proceed slowly and make sure you are traveling with the proper flow of traffic. Remember, the Federal Highway Administration has found that 300 to 400 individuals each year in the United States are killed as a result of wrong way driving.
