Death Reported Following Highway 70 Crash

Roane County, TN (February 23, 2021) A single vehicle crash occurred on Highway 70 close to Dogwood Valley Road in eastern Roane County on the evening of February 23 that resulted in a casualty. The highway patrol reports that the driver of a Saturn was traveling west when he lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve. The vehicle then struck a guardrail, re-entered the road, and went up an embankment before colliding with several trees. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop on its top. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, later passed away from injuries incurred in the crash.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has found that trees are the most commonly struck object by motorists. Guardrails and other traffic barriers are the second most commonly struck object.
