Backhoe Crash Creates Obstacle In Sullivan

Backhoe

Sullivan, TN (April 13, 2020) Sullivan County law enforcement is looking for the backhoe owner who crashed in the southeast part of the county. A man was seen driving the equipment along a rural road, when the backhoe ran off the road. A driver left the equipment and fled. The accident occurred close to the border of Knox County, but the equipment being used could be any from one of several areas.

The Insurance Information Institute reports that 7,422 deaths occurred due to fixed-object accidents in 2018.

How to Avoid Obstacles With Road Work Equipment

Some of the critical steps that you can take to avoid colliding with road work equipment include:

  • Avoid tailgating. Tailgating occurs when a motor vehicle driver follows too closely to other vehicles.
  • Follow road workers cautiously. Flaggers are commonly involved in road projects. These flaggers have the important task of directing traffic to avoid having motorists end up in dangerous areas.
  • Place away distractions. Various distractions can prevent drivers from watching out for obstacles, including work equipment. Do not always assume that workers will place warnings about this equipment.
