Monroe County, TN (September 8, 2020) The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated two deadly car accidents on September 9th that occurred in Monroe County. One of these accidents occurred at 9:42 p.m. when an SUV driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a fence. The SUV then went down an embankment and rolled into a creek. The reason why the driver lost control of the vehicle remains uncertain.

Distracted driving is one of the most common reasons why people lose control of their vehicle. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that each day in the United States, around 9 people die and over a thousand are injured as the result of distracted driving.

Other Reasons Why People Lose Control of Vehicles

Drivers lose control of their vehicle for various reasons. Besides distracted driving, some of the other common causes include:

  • Defective motor vehicle parts
  • Fatigued driving and motorists who fall asleep at the wheel
  • Hydroplaning, which occurs when a layer of water is created between a vehicle’s wheels and the road
  • Motorists who operate vehicles while drunk or under the influence of drugs
