A drunk driver is a threat to Tennessee residents

Many hazards come with driving on Tennessee’s roads. Dangers exist, too, when a vehicle is pulled over to the side of the road — sometimes distracting passing motorists and causing collisions. When the motorist is a drunk driver, the parked car by the side of the road can act as a shining beacon with a bull’s eye painted on it, which the driver finds difficult to avoid. A recent accident in West Tennessee highlighted this danger.

A female police officer pulled over a woman in a black Jeep during a routine traffic stop. While the officer was out of her vehicle and conducting enquiries, another vehicle collided with the patrol car, trapping the officer between her vehicle and the black Jeep. The officer was later taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police attending to the accident observed that the 28-year-old male driver showed signs of being intoxicated and found empty cans of beer in his vehicle. The driver was required to participate in a blood draw before ultimately being charged with DUI and reckless driving. It’s reported that he currently remains in custody without bond.

In accidents of this nature, the impact on the victim can be devastating. Costly medical expenses, a vehicle in need of repairs, possible long-term disability and loss of income while not being able to work are just some of the overwhelming consequences that can arise. Tennessee residents involved in a drunk driver accident may have rights to monetary compensation to ease the burden of any injuries, damaged property or missed work suffered. Successfully claiming compensation in a personal injury case can assist in the financial demands of such an accident and allow for a less stressful recovery period.
