Knox County, TN (March 17, 2021) Knox County law enforcement as well as medical workers responded to a person struck by a train on the night of March 17th in the 900 block of Gill Avenue. The 72-year-old victim was struck by a train while walking on the tracks. The male was conscious at the time that first-responders arrived and was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The victim has since been listed in stable condition.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that a pedestrian is killed every 88 minutes in traffic crashes. This equates to more than 16 people a day and 115 people a week dying from pedestrian accidents. One of the best ways to avoid train accidents as a pedestrian is to never walk on or along railroad tracks. It’s also a good idea to always be on the lookout as a pedestrian for warning signs and signals.
