Anderson County, TN (April 7, 2021) The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department as well medical workers responded to Edgemoor Road on April 7th after a 7-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle. The child was later transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was placed in serious condition. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation and reports that the incident was not a hit and run. This is a breaking event and additional details about the accident are still pending.

137,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency room departments for nonfatal crash-related injuries in 2017. Per trip, passengers are also one and a half times more likely to be killed in crashes. To stay safe, pedestrians should make sure to only cross the road in designated areas. Pedestrians should also cautiously look around for vehicles in both directions before crossing the road. Pedestrians also must avoid assuming that drivers can see them because this is not always the case. After all, drivers might be distracted or even under the influence.
