Crews Extinguish Fire After Vehicle Crashes Into Building

Accident2

Knoxville, TN (March 8, 2021) Crews extinguished a fire at a Knoxville bank on March 8th after a car crashed into the front of the First Horizon bank building. The Knox County Rural Metro Department first reported to the fire around 12:30 am on March 8th. Crews soon found a vehicle that had crashed into the front door and burst into flames, which then caught the building on fire. As a result of the crash, the bank experienced smoke damage inside and its canopy as well as its front door were damaged by the flames. The Knox County SHeriff’s office reports that the vehicle struck the Minute Clinic at CVS Pharmacy first before continuing through the parking lot to the bank. The driver later fled on foot following the crash, but was apprehended by law enforcement close to the scene of the accident. The man was cited as well taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Fortunately, no one beside this man is reported to have been injured by the fire or crash. Motorists who are passing through the area are advised to exercise caution.

The US Fire Administration has found that each year from 2014 to 2016, approximately 171,500 highway vehicle fires occurred in the United States.
