Crosville, TN (October 1, 2020) Crosville firefighters and law enforcement responded to an accident on October 1st that occurred at the plaza on North Main Street after a car crashed into the front of a business. Law enforcement reports indicate that the driver of a Ford Explorer failed to stop in a designed parking spot and ended up crashing into a pet crematory company. Fortunately, no one was inside the business at the time of the accident and no injuries were reported. Additional details including the cause of the accident have not yet been released.

According to data compiled by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, so far in 2020 there have been 381 car accidents in Crossville’s Cumberland County involving property damage only. A decade ago, Cumberland County saw 995 property damage only car crashes. One of the most common reasons why car accidents involving property damage occur is operator and pedal error. Operator error occurs when drivers accelerate inappropriately or are in the wrong gear. Pedal error occurs when a driver steps on the gas instead of the brakes. Other reasons why motorists cause property damage include drunk driving, traffic accidents, and medical emergencies. Other times, property damage only accidents are the result of weather. For example, a motorist might skid on ice or lose control of their vehicle while driving through the rain.
