DUI_Crash

An 18-year-old Knoxville teenager was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence this past summer, prompting a discussion about the dangers that drunk drivers present out on Knoxville roads, and what Knoxville DUI car accident victims can do to get justice after a serious car accident happens. According to local news reports, on Sunday, July 27, at around 10:00 p.m. in the evening, two Knoxville County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a head-on car accident while responding to an unrelated call about an active fight in the Ingles in Hall’s parking lot. The dangerous collision occurred in the Hall’s area. The Knoxville County Sheriff’s Office stated that “Deputy Matthew Kirchner and his probationary officer were involved in a “serious” traffic incident in the Halls area, with the officer’s vehicle being struck head-on by another vehicle. The injured deputy was a passenger.” Emergency medical personnel were reported to have arrived on the scene of the accident, and the injured deputy was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Reports indicate that he suffered a number of serious injuries related to the crash, including three fractures in his left ankle, a dislocated tibia, lacerations, and bruising to his ribs. Fortunately, the other officer that was driving the Sheriff’s Office vehicle “did not require treatment.” The driver of the vehicle that crashed head-on into the KCSO vehicle was an 18-year-old man. He was arrested and charged with a number of criminal charges related to the accident, including DUI, reckless driving, a seatbelt violation, two counts of vehicular assault by DUI, and underage consumption of alcohol. KCSO Sheriff Tom Spangler said of the accident, “Our deputies put their lives on the line daily to keep our communities safe…We are grateful for the swift response from emergency services and will provide all necessary support to our injured deputy and their family during this time.” The case is ongoing and it remains to be seen whether the 18-year-old man will be convicted of any of the charges against him, and if any civil lawsuits will be filed.
