Fatal Hit-and-Run in Kingsport Leads to Arrest

Kingsport, TN (August 4, 2020) Law enforcement states that a man was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian. The accident occurred around noon on August 4 on Interstate 26 / U.S. 23 close to the West Stone Drive interchange. Based on reports provided by the Kingsport Police Department, a westbound Ford F-150 pickup truck entered the left side of the road, sideswiped a work vehicle parked in a median, and collided with a work crew member who was standing close to the work vehicle.

As a result of the collision, the work crew member was killed. Another worker inside of the work truck was not injured. The F-150 driver continued on U.S. 23 and traveled into Virginia. Due to an eyewitness report, the F-150 eventually stopped by Weber City Police Department and the driver was arrested on independent but related charges. Kingsport police report that additional details about the accident are still under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that there were 737,1000 hit-and-run accidents in 2015 that resulted in 1,819 fatalities.
