Knoxville, TN (September 24, 2020) An accident occurred on Interstate 40 East on September 24th that blocked the left lanes of the interstate close to the Papermill exit. Law enforcement reports that the accident occurred around 10:00 pm and involved two vehicles. The accident, which resulted in the overturn of one vehicle, was not cleared until an hour later. Westbound traffic was not impacted by the accident. Details about the injuries incurred from the accident as well as the cause of the crash are still under investigation.

Car accidents are classified as rollovers if the vehicle flips onto either its roof or side during an accident. Various causes lead to rollovers ranging from the high gravity of vehicles to improperly designed roads with too sharp curves. With rollover accidents, there is a significant risk that the driver or passenger will be ejected from the vehicle, which greatly increases the risk of serious injuries and fatalities. Data collected by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that in 2018, 6,583 passenger vehicle occupants died as a result of a rollover.
