Woman sues Volkswagen, claims air bags failed to work properly

A female driver recently filed a lawsuit against Volkswagen, claiming that her vehicle’s air bags malfunctioned. According to the woman, the air bags deployed for seemingly no reason. This case, which occurred in a different state, understandably may cause alarm among drivers in Tennessee.

The woman who filed the suit said she was operating her Volkswagen Jetta on the interstate when her driver’s side air bags inflated even though her car did not touch anything. She managed to pull off to the road’s edge and then called to have Volkswagen tow her vehicle to the nearest dealership. She learned that the dealership claimed that the area underneath her car had been damaged and that the air bags had not deployed mistakenly.

An expert at diagnosing vehicle problems arrived at the site and sided with the dealership regarding the matter, the woman said. However, she maintains, there have been many cases of air bags deploying improperly in the Volkswagen Jetta from the years 2002 to 2004. She said the company did not correctly tell her about a recall related to the air bag issue.

Volkswagen also is being blamed for not designing and producing a safe vehicle and for not issuing a warning about the air bag malfunction. The woman in this case is seeking damages for loss of the use of her vehicle, automobile repair costs and towing expenses. She also is seeking the loss of income, losing her ability to enjoy life and mental anguish. When someone experiences losses as a result of a defective product, such as air bags, he or she legally has the right to seek justice in the matter through a product liability lawsuit in Tennessee.
