Cumberland County (March 31, 2021) The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a car crash on Interstate 40 westbound at the 321 mile marker in Cumberland County shortly after noon on March 31st. Law enforcement officers state that the driver of a Honda Accord passed a Freightliner tractor-trailer. The Honda driver then collided with the Freightliner and came to a stop in the median. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident. The driver of the Honda Accord was subsequently charged with reckless driving as well as operating a vehicle on a suspended license, simple possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. A passenger with the vehicle was also cited for a seatbelt violation.

Data reveals that reckless driving is a factor in approximately 33% of US car accidents involving a death. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has also found that 87% of drivers engage in reckless driving at some point. Reckless driving involves any type of indifference or irreverence for safety or the property of others.
