Cumberland County, TN (November 14, 2020) A tractor-trailer hauling diesel fuel lost control early in the morning on November 14th and overturned on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County. The truck’s driver was fortunately able to avoid injuries. The damage to the tractor-trailer was extensive, however, and the wreckage needed to be towed. Emergency crews also shut down Interstate 40 west at the Westel Road exit and temporarily diverted all traffic onto Highway 70.

This tractor-trailer crash was just one of three accidents that occurred in Cumberland County on the 14th. A second crash also occurred early on the morning of the 14th on the 400 block of Sparta Drive and involved a motorist who ran off the road and struck a tree. The driver in this crash was transported to Cumberland Medical Center for treatment of injuries. A third crash occurred on Highway 68 at Cox Valley Road and occurred when a motor vehicle ran off the road. The road was closed for a short period of time so the wreckage could be cleared. Accident reports, which will provide additional details including what caused these crashes, are expected to be released on November 16th.

The most recent data available by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland security reveals that in 2008 there 86 heavy/medium truck accidents in Cumberland County, 112 of these accidents in 2007, and 135 in 2006.
