Three People Injured In Interstate 40 Accident

CarAccident3

Putnam County (March 17, 2020) – A two vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 40 in eastern Putnam County that resulted in three individuals being injured, two of whom were from Fentress County. A law enforcement officer commented that the accident occurred when a Chevy van collided with a Ford F-150 while both vehicles were traveling west and navigating a curve. The Ford’s driver was flown from the accident site to a nearby trauma center, while the Chevy’s driver and a passenger of the Chevy were transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

The Causes of Vehicle Collisions

There are many factors that can cause vehicles to collide with one another, but some of the most common include drunk driving, reckless driving, adverse weather conditions, driver fatigue, and distracted driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that each day in 2016, approximately 9 people were killed while another 1,000 individuals were injured as a result of accidents caused by a distracted driver. A substantial number of these accidents occurred in Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security reports that in 2019, 1,633 distracted driving accidents occurred in Tennessee.
