One Person Injured in Cleveland School Bus Crash

shutterstock_158502308

Bradley County, TN (February 22, 2021) One person was injured in a crash on February 22nd that occurred in Bradley County involving a school bus. Law enforcement reports that the bus had dropped off its last child when the bus was stopped off Benton Pike. The bus was then struck by another vehicle. A person in the smaller passenger vehicle was airlifted to a local hospital following the crash. Neither the school bus driver nor the bus passenger was injured in the collision. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and attempting to determine what factors led to the collision between the two vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that from 2007 to 2016, there were 1,282 people killed in school-transportation related crashes. This equates to 128 deaths each year. Some of the most common reasons why school bus crashes occur include drivers who fail to take adequate safety precautions, wet or windy weather conditions that make it difficult to suddenly stop the bus, blind spots besides the bus in which passenger vehicles cannot be seen, and negligence by bus drivers
