shutterstock_299150834

Unicoi County, TN (October 31, 2020) The Tennessee Highway reports one individual was killed on the morning of October 31st following a single vehicle crash. According to the report provided by law enforcement, the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling south on Scioto Road at an accelerated rate of speed while turning a curve. The driver then lost control of his vehicle, overcorrected, and went airborne off the left side of the road. The motorist then struck a utility pole. Due to the force of the collision, the vehicle separated into two sections. Law enforcement has stated that alcohol was in the driver’s system. The driver is also reported to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident and further details are pending.

The Federal Highway Administration reports that greater than 25 percent of deadly car accidents involve horizontal curves. Many of these accidents involve motorists whose vehicle leaves the road. This statistic means that accidents involving horizontal curves are approximately three times more likely to take place than other car crashes that occur on any other type of road segment.
