Loudon County, TN (April 11, 2021) A five vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in Loudon County on April 11th resulted in multiple injuries. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that the driver of a Jeep Liberty was traveling east at the 366 mile marker when he exited the road, crossed over the median, and collided head-on with an oncoming Nissan Rogue. Following the collision, the Jeep overturned and came to a stop. Three other vehicles were also struck from debris created by the collision. The Jeep’s driver was injured in the crash and later charged with failure to exercise due care and failure to maintain lane of travel. The Nissan’s driver and two of the Nissan passengers were injured in the accident.

In 2020, 1,205 car crashes occurred in Loudon County involving 937 accidents involving property damage only, 260 crashes involving injuries, and 6 accidents that led to deaths. Motorists should remember that there are several steps that can be taken to limit the risk of ending up in a head on collision. For one, motorists should never straddle the centerline. Two, while traveling on multiple lane highways, drivers should travel in the right lane whenever possible and if traveling in the left lane to drive as close to the right of the road as is safe.
