Knoxville Woman Arrested for Crashing into Driver, Kicking Out Police Car Window – Tennessee Laws Protect Victims Injured by Violent Drivers

Police_

Car accidents are virtually always frightening and dangerous incidents, but the situation can be even more deadly when a driver is out of control and chooses violence. One Knoxville woman is being accused of just that – violent and out of control driving – that not only led to a car crash, but also an altercation with the Knoxville Police. According to local news reports, on Tuesday, May 27, Knoxville Police officers responded to a car crash involving two vehicles in the area of the 7300 block of Middlebrook Pike. At the scene of the car accident, the responding officers were met with a driver who claimed that another vehicle had crashed into their vehicle. There were two cars at the accident scene. The driver of the vehicle that allegedly crashed into the other vehicle, a female from Knoxville, “had slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and was incoherent,” according to reports. Although the female driver at first was reported to have consented to a field sobriety test, she is alleged to have become belligerent with police officers, and was arrested and taken into custody. After being transported to the hospital for medical assistance related to the accident, the woman was reportedly discharged, and officers were tasked with taking her to the Knox County Jail. On the way to the jail, reports indicate, she “demanded to be able to call her husband and began kicking the ceiling of the patrol vehicle, yelling for help and stating that the officer was going to rape her… [she] then reportedly kicked and busted the rear window of the patrol car, climbed out and fled….” The officer that had been transporting the woman parked his patrol vehicle, and attempted to apprehend her on foot. Once she was taken back into police custody, the woman “again demanded to call her husband and told the officer transporting her that she would kill him if she was not allowed to call her husband.” As a result of the car accident, potentially Driving Under the Influence and her altercation with police, the woman was ultimately charged with a litany of charges, including DUI, failure to exercise due care, felony escape, evading arrest, and vandalism. The terrible and frightening car accident is one example of how an allegedly drunk and out of control driver can leave a path of destruction in their wake.

What Laws Protect Knoxville Drivers from Violent, Intoxicated, and Out of Control Drivers?

In light of the recent accident in Knoxville, some Knoxville drivers and their families likely wonder what rights and options they have if they are injured due to another driver’s out of control, drunk, and violent conduct. Under Knoxville personal injury laws, victims of serious and out of control drunk driving car accidents have a limited time to file a lawsuit in court for money compensation. These are called personal injury car accident lawsuits, and they are brought under Tennessee personal injury laws.
