Knoxville Man’s Fourth of July DUI Arrest Shows Dangers of Drunk Driving in Knoxville, Rights and Options of DUI Survivors in the Marble City

Crashed

The arrest of a Knoxville man who was allegedly driving drunk and out of control on Friday, Fourth of July, shows just how dangerous Knoxville streets can be when drunk and intoxicated drivers hit the road. According to local news reports, 46-year-old Knoxville resident was arrested and charged with DUI charges on Friday, July 4. The warrant for the arrest, as reported by local news outlets, stated that “a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was doing a traffic stop on I-640 west on July 4 at 9:47 p.m. when he saw France’s truck drive by.  The trooper said the pickup truck was missing a passenger-side tire. The trooper left the traffic stop he was working to follow.”  The driver was reported to have “failed to stop and continued onto I-40 east.” and was said to have been “driving at a high rate of speed, had heavy front-end damage, a missing passenger-side headlight and was driving on the rim….” The trooper who was following observed that the truck was traveling into oncoming traffic and he almost hit several other cars. The trooper used his vehicle to stop the vehicle, and when the driver stopped his truck, he then attempted to flee on foot. The trooper was able to subdue him and he was arrested. The report indicates that the driver “smelled of alcohol and he had ‘bloodshot watery eyes.’” He was ultimately arrested and charged with a litany of charges, including DUI, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, driving while suspended, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and evading arrest with risk of death or injury. The case is ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether there will be a conviction in the case against France.

Combatting DUI Driving in Knoxville and Your Rights Under Tennessee Personal Injury Laws

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the frightening high-speed chase that ended in the arrest of the driver on DUI charges. However, the recent incident serves as a good reminder to Knoxville drivers and their families that dangers may lurk every time that they set off on the road. DUI car accidents are not all-too-rare in Knoxville, and Knoxville drivers and their families should know their rights under Tennessee laws if they are injured by a drunk or intoxicated driver. Under Tennessee personal injury laws, victims of serious car accidents caused by drunk or intoxicated drivers are entitled to file a lawsuit in court for money compensation for their injuries and losses. There is a limited time to bring a personal injury lawsuit under Tennessee personal injury laws, so it is always a good idea to speak with an experienced Knoxville car accident lawyer about your case as soon as possible after a serious car accident happens in Knoxville.
