Driver Avoids Injury Following Sparta Highway Pickup Crash

Law enforcement as well as emergency medical workers responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Sparta Highway close to Pleasant Hill in Cumberland County late on the afternoon of February 8th. The accident involved the driver of a Ford Ranger who was heading west when he exited the road and collided with a tree. The crash report provided by law enforcement states that the driver was not injured and was cited for failure to exercise due care.

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has found that trees are the most commonly struck object by motorists. Motorists should understand several critical elements about tree collisions involving motor vehicles. First, these accidents are often serious in nature. Second, trees are one of the most common and solid objects at the side of the road. Third, tree accidents are not always the fault of the motorist involved in the crash. While car accidents with trees can occur for various reasons, many of these collisions occur because trees are negligently maintained and as a result end up creating an additional hazard for motorists.
