Crashes Cause Traffic Backups on Interstate 40
Knoxville, TN (February 25, 2021) Multiple car crashes are reported to have occurred on February 25th along Interstate 40 that have led to traffic backups. Interstate 40 East is also closed at James White Parkway as a result of a traffic crash, while traffic was temporarily stopped to around Tyson Park. Additionally, law enforcement reports that one person was injured in the resulting crash. The Knoxville Fire Department responded to the scene to assist and advise drivers to reroute around the crash by using Interstate 640.
A crash was also reported on Interstate 40 West at Pellissippi Parkway, where traffic was backed up to Walker Springs. Motorists who are traveling on Interstate 40 are advised to exercise caution. Additional details about these crashes including how many vehicles were involved, the number of fatalities or injuries that occurred, and what led up to each of these accidents still remains uncertain.
In 2020, Knox County saw 11,484 accidents. A large number of the crashes occurred on the section of Interstate 40 that passes through Knox County.
