Car Crash Claims Life of Dekalb County High School Student

DeKalb County, TN (April 4, 2021) A DeKalb County High School Senior was tragically killed in a two vehicle crash that occurred on the morning of April 4th on Highway 70 between Dowelltown and Liberty. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that the student was driving east on US 70 in a Hyundai Elantra when she negotiated a right curve and crossed into a continuous turn lane. Subsequently, the teen driver entered into the oncoming traffic lane and collided head on with a Nissan Rogue. The Nissan’s driver was injured and transported to a nearby medical facility. Both drivers are reported to have been wearing their seatbelts.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that in 2018, almost 2,500 teens in the country between the ages of 13 to 19 were killed in car crashes. Meanwhile, approximately 285,000 teen drivers were treated in emergency rooms for injuries that occurred in minor vehicle crashes. This statistic means that each day, approximately 7 teen drivers in the country die in motor vehicle crashes.
