White County, TN (December 23, 2020) A two vehicle crash occurred in White County on December 23 that resulted in injuries. Law enforcement states that the driver of a Chevy ambulance was stopped at the intersection of Highway 111 and Valley View Drive, which is located just north of Sparta. The ambulance went into a crossing and struck the driver of a Nissan Rogue. The Rogue exited the road and came to a stop on its top. The Nissan’s driver was injured in the crash. A patient was being transported to the ambulance at the time of the crash but was not injured in the collision.

The National Safety Council has found that in 2018, 168 people died in accidents involving emergency vehicles. Many of these fatalities were occupants of non-emergency vehicles. While crashes with police vehicles represented the most fatalities, ambulance-related deaths came in second and fatalities caused by fire truck crashes came in third. Remember to drive with caution whether or not an ambulance vehicle has its lights on.
