3 Separate DUI Car Accidents Rock Knoxville Over Single Weekend

CarDUI

There is no doubt that for most people in Knoxville, learning about one terrible and dangerous Driving Under the Influence car accident in the city is one thing, but what about three back-to-back-to-back? This was the case over a three-day period in Knoxville, in which separate Driving Under the Influence incidents caused mayhem and injuries across the city.

According to local news reports, the first of the terrible and dangerous Driving Under the Influence accidents happened on Friday, March 14. On that day, Knoxville Police officers responded to a car collision just off of Chapman Highway. The accident happened at around 6:30 p.m. in the evening, and witnesses to the accident told police officers that a “vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic before driving off the road and plummeting down a 50-foot embankment.” The man who had been driving the vehicle allegedly “had a previous DUI and admitted to an on-scene firefighter that he used fentanyl before he got behind the wheel.” He was taken to the hospital for “minor injuries” and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence offenses.

The second DUI accident in that same weekend happened that same evening, just about five hours later, at around 11:00 p.m. In the second Driving Under the Influence car crash, Knoxville Police responded to a report that “a vehicle had crashed into several other vehicles in the area of Henley Street and Main Street before fleeing the scene.” In the accident, one person was reported to have been “struck” and was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg. The driver who hit the victim was reported to have allegedly attempted to evade police officers by driving his car to the 300 block of Blount Avenue, and then ran into the nearby woods, and, later, the Tennessee River. A Knoxville Fire Department Rescue Boat in cooperation with Knoxville Police officers eventually pulled the man from the water and arrested him. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence and a number of other charges.

The third and final incident in the string of DUI incidents happened on Saturday, March 15. On that day, at around 3:15 a.m. in the wee hours of the morning, Knoxville Police responded to a car crash in the 300 block of Gay Street. The driver of the vehicle had allegedly crashed into a building that was currently unoccupied. The female driver of the vehicle was reported to have “admitted to consuming numerous alcoholic beverages before driving,” and she was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence offenses.
