Vehicle Flips Over on Interstate 40

Rolled

Knoxville, TN (August 3, 2020) The Rural Metro Fire and Knox County Rescue arrived at the scene of a car accident that occurred on Interstate 40 on August 3. The accident involved a vehicle that flipped off the interstate that trapped two occupants, who were later extricated from the vehicle. Both victims were later transported to a nearby hospital by an ambulance.

Rollovers are one of the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents. While the occupants of the vehicle in this case stayed safe, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’ reports that rollovers represent approximately 35% of all fatalities from passenger vehicle accidents.

What Causes Vehicle Rollovers

When vehicles flip over, there are often one of several causes involved, which include:

  • Dangerous driving patterns. Reckless driving includes many types of driving patterns including taking sharp turns or swerving. These sudden movements can create friction between the vehicle’s tires and the road, which can cause the vehicle to flip over.
  • Loss of vehicle control. One of the most common causes of vehicle flip overs is when a driver loses control of the vehicle. There are many factors that can result in loss of control of a vehicle including distracted driving, falling asleep at the wheel, or striking road debris suddenly.
  • Multiple vehicle collisions. Many times, vehicle flip overs involve just one vehicle, but these accidents can also be caused by multiple vehicle pile-ups. Most often in this type of accident, one vehicle struck at the side from the front of another vehicle and pushed over from the subsequent force.
