Person Dies in Single Vehicle Ooltewah Crash

CarCrash2

Ooltewah, TN (September 22, 2020) The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reports that one person died in a single vehicle crash that occurred on Ooltewah-Georgetown road on the afternoon of September 22nd. The cause of the accident as well as the name of the motorist who was killed in the accident are still pending.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland security reports that so far in 2020, there were 17 accidents in Hamilton County that resulted in fatalities. This number will hopefully result in a lower number than the 35 fatalities that occurred in Hamilton County in 2012.

The Common Causes of Deadly Single Vehicle Car Crashes

The phrase “single-vehicle crash” encompasses many causes. Some of these causes like distracted, intoxicated, or reckless driving are the result of the driver. Deadly single vehicle accidents, however, can also be the result of factors that are not within the driver’s control. Some of the factors known to result in deadly single vehicle accidents that are caused by non-driver parties include:

  • Defectively designed roadways. For example, a curve in the road might be too sharp and easily result in vehicle rollovers.
  • Improperly maintained roads. This category includes things like potholes and debris in the road.
  • Defective motor vehicle parts. Brake pads, steering wheels, engine components and other parts of vehicles can fail to work properly, which can quickly result in deadly accidents.
  • Hit and run accidents might sometimes appear at initial glance to be single vehicle accidents. If a crash analysis is not performed, it is often difficult to assess whether another driver was involved.
