Man Dies in Morristown Car Crash

CraCrash

Morristown, TN (September 14, 2020) A man was killed early on the morning of September 14th when the man’s vehicle left the road and collided with a tree. The driver was later pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Based on a report provided by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver was heading south on State Route 131 around 5:00 a.m. when the man’s Dodge Charger exited the left side of the road while the driver was navigating a right hand curve in the road. The vehicle then struck a tree. Additional details about the accident are still under investigation.

The Federal Highway Safety Administration reports that more than 25 percent of deadly car accidents involve a horizontal curve and that many of these accidents involve vehicles that leave the road.

How to Stay Safe While Navigating Horizontal Curves

To avoid car accidents, motorists should remember to follow some important strategies as they proceed through horizontal curves. These strategies include:

  • After you round the midpoint of the curve, speed up your vehicle slightly so you begin to travel at the posted speed limit as soon as you exit the curve.
  • Make sure to always follow the posted speed limit. Never travel too fast for surrounding conditions.
  • Remain in your lane of traffic as you navigate a curve.
