Cumberland County Accident Injures Driver

Cumberland County, TN (July 19, 2020) A single vehicle accident on Genesis Road close to Hyder Loop occurred on July 19th and injured one person. Based on a report provided by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a Ford F-350 drifted off the road, crossed a ditch, and collided with a tree. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was injured in the accident.

Many motorists understand the importance of wearing a seatbelt. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the national use rate was 90.7% in 2019. Additionally, seat belts used in passenger vehicles saved approximately 14,955 lives in 2017. Unfortunately, not all drivers wear seatbelts, which greatly increases the chances of deadly accidents.

What to Do If You Lose Control of Your Vehicle

While it has not yet been determined, the driver in this story appears to have driven in a pattern where he lost control of his vehicle. If you find yourself in a situation where you no longer have control of your vehicle, it helps to follow some critical steps, which include:

  • Avoid panicking
  • Do not brake too hard to regain control of your vehicle
  • Avoiding accelerating, because this can send your vehicle into a skid
  • Slowly steer in the opposite direction if you’re skidding
  • Utilize the emergency brake
