Clarksville Driver Crashes Into Pole Following Shooting

Clarksville, TN (September 16, 2020) A person was shot inside a vehicle in downtown Clarksville on the night of September 16th. Around 9:20 p.m., law enforcement responded to College Street near Poston Street when they found a Dodge Charger that had crashed into a utility pole. An individual inside the car was then determined to have a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Additional details about the accident including the victim’s current condition are still not known. Law enforcement has also not commented yet whether the victim was the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. A Dodge Challenger is believed to have also been involved in the crash.

Clarksville is located in Montgomery County, where the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security reports so far in 2020 there have been 12 deadly accidents, 525 accidents involving physical injuries, and 1,918 accidents involving property damage.

The Danger of Accidental Shootings

While the reason the crash victim was shot remains uncertain, it helps to understand that accidental shootings can occur for several reasons. Some of the most common reasons why gun accidents occur are inadequate training, reckless behavior like posing with guns or firing shots at the air, the use of alcohol or drugs, and accident discharge which occurs when the firearm’s owner fails to make sure that a gun is empty before carrying or transporting the firearm. Gun accidents occur anywhere, including while someone is traveling in a motor vehicle.
