Tree Falls on Teenage Hiker in Unicoi County

Unicoi County, TN (November 10, 2020) Law enforcement with Unicoi County reports that a 13-year-old was injured after a tree fell on him while he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. First responders came and helped the family get off the trail following the accident. Law enforcement also suspects that the teen might have experienced a broken rib due to the falling of the tree limb.

The Tree Care Industry Association reports that in 2016, there were 92 fatal accidents involving trees. This includes 26 accidents in which trees fell on people. An owner of property in Tennessee has a responsibility for maintaining safe premises, which means that the property must be free of known dangers to individuals both inside and outside of the property. As a result, a property owner can be held liable for falling tree branches that strike unsuspecting individuals and cause personal injury or property damage. As a result, if you are harmed while hiking by a falling tree branch, it is important to remember that you might be able to pursue compensation. Some of the most common reasons why these accidents occur include improperly maintained trees, failure to cut down loose branches, and adverse weather conditions like rain.
