Tractor-Trailer Crash Occurs on Interstate 26
Sullivan County, TN (November 11, 2020) An accident involving a tractor-trailer occurred on Interstate 26 Eastbound on the morning of November 14th that temporarily closed the interstate’s right lane. Based on reports provided by the Kingsport Police Department, the tractor-trailer was the only vehicle involved in the accident. The tractor-trailer’s driver refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident. The cause of the crash still remains uncertain as the Tennessee Highway Patrol assists traffic.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has found that in 2018, there were 324 deadly crashes caused by any type of speeding and 252 accidents involving distracted motorists which includes drivers whose attention was momentarily diverted from the road due to talking on the cell phone, texting, eating, and other activities.
One of the best steps that drivers can take to avoid collisions with large trucks is to be mindful of the truck’s blind spots. While blind spots in passenger vehicles are small in size, these spots are much more expansive with trucks. Most trucks have blind spots in front, back, and parts of the driver’s side and passenger side. If you are traveling in any of these areas, you should anticipate that the truck driver cannot see you.
