Fatal 3-car accident leaves two dead in Tennessee

On October 25, an accident that occurred on Interstate 240 killed two individuals. Other people were also injured, but media reports did not specify the amount of victims. Officials said that the fatal wreck took place during the early morning hours when a vehicle, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, struck a disabled vehicle that was pulling over onto the highway’s shoulder near Getwell Road. In the impact, the disabled vehicle smashed into a guide rail where it then spun uncontrollably, ejecting the driver in the process.

Following the initial crash, the woman who was reportedly driving the speeding vehicle collided with another vehicle, causing it to end up a ditch off the roadway. The woman’s vehicle then repeatedly flipped over before it came to rest on its topside. Both the driver of the disabled vehicle and the driver of the speeding vehicle were dead when authorities arrived on the scene. First responders took several other motorists who were injured in the accident to Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening.

When a loved one loses his or her life in a car accident and the family suspects that a negligent driver caused the crash, a wrongful death claim may be in order. By filing such a claim in a civil court, the family must produce evidence of the driver’s negligence in order to recover economic losses stemming from the accident.

An attorney who handles wrongful death claims may be able to scrutinize police reports and witness accounts for evidence to substantiate the family’s claims. If the accused driver died from injuries he or she suffered in the wreck, then the plaintiff would have to file against his or her estate. In some circumstances, non-economic damages such as loss of companionship and society might possibly be awarded to the family.
