Cumberland County, TN (February 9, 2021) Cumberland County law enforcement and medical workers responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Highway 70 East on February 9th that occurred close to Cox Valley Road. Law enforcement reports that the accident occurred when the driver of a Mazda Miata lost control of her vehicle, left the road, and entered a ditch filled with water. Rescue workers ultimately freed the woman from the vehicle and she experienced minor injuries. A full report of the crash is pending.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has divided single-vehicle crashes into two categories: run-off-road crashes and on-road crashes in which a vehicle remains on the road following a crash. Speeding, intoxicated drivers, curved roads, and rural roads are more likely to be the site of accidents in which a vehicle is run off the road. The reasons why vehicles run off the road include various factors but some of the most common include motorists who attempt to avoid a person or animal, overcorrecting while operating a vehicle, inattentive driving, fatigued driving, and intoxicated driving.
