Roane County, TN (August 17, 2020) A car crash occurred on Interstate 40 westbound at mile marker 356 on August 17th. As a result, westbound traffic was temporarily impacted because the right lane was blocked. Additional details about the accident are still pending and it remains uncertain whether anyone was injured or killed in the collision.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security reports that in 2019, there were 204,673 car accidents in the state of Tennessee which resulted in 1,150 fatalities and 48,420 injuries.

Advice on Safely Driving on Tennessee’s Interstate

Regardless of how safe motorists try to drive, accidents can still unfortunately occur. Some of the critical advice that you should remember to follow while driving on the state’s interstate include:

  • As you merge onto interstates, your vehicle will merge from the entrance ramp into the right lane of traffic. While you perform this maneuver, remember to turn on your blinker and to check between your driver side mirror and blind spot just in case any vehicles are approaching you.
  • While traveling on Tennessee’s interstates, remember that there are several types of drivers about which you must remain cautious. For example, drivers should understand that truck drivers often have limited visibility. It is also common for drivers to use the interstate for long periods of time, which can quickly result in accidents due to fatigue.
  • Interstates have maximum and minimum speeds. Make sure that your vehicle stays within this range at all times. Driving too slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast.
