Accident Occurs on Highway 127 in Cumberland County

Cumberland County, TN (October 7, 2020) A car crash occurred on October 7th on Highway 127 North close to North Elementary School and resulted in a traffic backup. Law enforcement reports that the driver of a Chevy Cruze was turning onto Grace Hill Drive when her vehicle was struck from behind by a Chevy Suburban. Fortunately, neither driver was injured in the collision. The Suburban’s driver was later charged with driving on a suspended license as well as driving without proof of insurance.

A 2015 Washington Post article that cited data provided by the National Transportation Board reported that there are 1.7 million rear-end collisions in the United States each year. These rear-end collisions result in 1,700 people being killed and another 500,000 individuals being injured. Tragically, a large number of these collisions occur because drivers are distracted by cell phones as well as other activities while driving and do not focus enough on surrounding conditions. Driving under the influence and aggressive driving also play a role in many rear-end collisions. While the driver in the rear is often the one accountable for the accident, this is not always the case.
