1 killed, 1 injured in 5-car collision

Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers reported a fatality in a multi-car crash on Nov. 26. The accident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24. The man who was killed was a 34-year-old La Vergne resident, and a 31-year-old man from Murfreesboro was injured.

The 34-year-old man had been stopped in his 2007 Chrysler 300 in the far right lane of the freeway when he was hit from behind by a 1989 Honda Accord driven by the 31-year-old. The driver of the Chrysler then exited his vehicle where he was hit by a driver in a 2004 Ford Escape. The driver in the Escape was reportedly trying to avoid striking the Accord.

After striking the Honda Accord, the driver in the Ford Escape rolled across the eastbound lanes and crashed into the center median. Two cars then crashed into the Escape. The drivers of the other two cars managed to come to a stop, and no one in either of the two vehicles was injured in the auto accident. According to a THP spokesperson, the 34-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The eastbound lanes of I-24 were closed off for nearly three hours in order to investigate and clear debris from then roadway.

In Tennessee, car accident victims may be able to recover their losses through a lawsuit if they can demonstrate that they were less negligent than the defendants were in causing the collision. When multiple drivers are involved in a car accident, determining fault may require additional investigation and witness testimony. Accident victims may want to seek guidance from a personal injury attorney.
