Vehicle Fire Occurs on Interstate 40

Putnam County, TN (November 23, 2020) A vehicle fire occurred on November 23rd around the 297 mile marker that resulted in the westbound right lane of traffic being temporarily blocked. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through the area. Additional details about the crash including whether anyone was injured or killed and what caused the fire are still under investigation.

The United States Fire Administration reports that vehicle fires can create heat of up to 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit as well as shoot flames out for distances of 10 feet and greater. Additionally, parts of vehicles can burst due to heat and send debris shooting a great distance. This debris can prove fatal. Needless to say, vehicle fires are a serious occurrence which result in 300 individuals in the United States dying and 1,250 being injured each year.
