U-Haul Driver Injured in Cumberland County Crash

Accident2

Cumberland County, TN (October 6, 2020) The driver of a U-Haul box truck was injured after an accident occurred on October 6th at the 325 mile marker of Interstate 40. Law enforcement reports that the truck driver was traveling west when the vehicle left the road and went down an embankment. The truck then collided with a fence, crossed over Eroh Road, went down a second embankment, and struck a tree. The driver was later transported to Cumberland Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. No other drivers appear to have been involved in the accident. The driver was also charged with the failure to exercise due care.

The Transportation Research Institute’s Trucks Involved in Fatal Accidents (TIFA) database is the only database in the United States that identifies daily rental trucks as a category of large trucks. The database reports that between 2005 to 2010, there were 145 deadly accidents involving daily rental trucks which include U-Haul vehicles. An even larger number of people incurred serious injuries as a result of accidents that occurred while operating daily rental vehicles. One of the substantial factors known to cause accidents with daily rental vehicles is that drivers are often not accustomed with the vehicle and as a result experience difficulty operating the vehicle in hazardous situations.
