Tennessee accident kills 1, injures others

An afternoon accident on July 1 near Knoxville involving three vehicles has resulted in one death. Four additional individuals suffered injuries in the auto accident on Highway 66 near a shopping center in Sevierville. According to witnesses, a car left the shopping center and attempted to cross the highway. It crashed into two SUVs prior to going over an embankment.

Officials indicate that the 77-year-old woman driving the vehicle died in the collision. A 67-year-old male passenger was transported by air to an area medical center. However, details about his current condition have not been released. Three occupants of one of the SUVs, ages 25, 56 and 2, suffered minor injuries. Authorities indicate that there are currently no charges pending.

No official cause of the collision has been given. Accident investigation may include determining whether a driver suffered a medical episode or whether any impairment played a role in the accident. Although it may appear that the woman caused the accident, the investigation will need to be completed for final determination of such details. While the woman’s passenger suffered more serious injuries, anyone injured in the incident might face additional medical challenges at a later date. In some cases, accident-related injuries may take time to surface, especially if soft tissue damage was suffered. The individual who was hospitalized may face the most serious expenses and difficulties because of the incident. While the driver’s automobile insurance may cover some of these expenses, a shortfall might be addressed through a personal injury claim against the woman’s estate.

If an injured party in such a case decides to consider personal injury litigation, it may be important to discuss the facts with an experienced lawyer who can evaluate accident reports and explain the options. A lawyer may also be helpful in dealing with insurance representatives.
