Man’s Body Discovered Following Boat Accident

Monroe County, TN (December 22, 2020) The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency recovered a man’s body from the Notchy Creek in Monroe County on December 22. Agency workers first responded to a call concerning a man who fell out of a boat. Witnesses reported hearing cries for help as well as seeing a boat adrift and an individual struggling. Efforts by bystanders to rescue the man were not successful. Additional details about the accident are still under investigation.

In 2019, the United States Coast Guard reports that 4,168 boating accidents occurred involving 613 fatalities, 2,599 injuries, and approximately $55 million in property damage. Some of the critical steps that you can take to avoid boating accidents include never boating while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, maintaining safety equipment on boats properly, monitoring the weather carefully and only boating when the weather permits, carefully loading passengers and gear, and participating in an accredited boat safety course. Following each of these suggestions can greatly decrease your chances of ending up in a boating accident.
