Police: Truck making illegal turn caused deadly accident

Authorities in Tennessee are blaming the actions of a tractor-trailer driver for a deadly accident on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Reports from the scene of the semi accident state that an 18-year-old woman is dead and two others are injured.

The Moorsburg woman was traveling northbound on Highway 11 in a 2000 Daewoo passenger vehicle around 1:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. Authorities say a 2005 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by a Texas man turned directly into her path. Police say the truck was in the middle of an illegal left turn onto the Sneedville Pike when it hit the victim’s vehicle in the left lane.

The driver of the Daewoo vehicle was pronounced dead from her injuries. Two other passengers in the vehicle, another female subject and an infant, received non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured, though officers who responded to the scene say he was found lying on the ground. The accident remains under investigation, and authorities state that criminal charges against the driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer are pending.

Any accident involving a tractor-trailer can be hugely damaging to both property and people. In too many cases, the drivers of passenger vehicles feel the brunt of the impact from the huge vehicles and suffer major injuries or fatalities. Survivors of truck accidents deemed to be the fault of the truck driver may have legal recourse against the driver or the company for which he or she works. An attorney with experience dealing with truck and car accidents can give a prospective plaintiff advice on whether or not it is wise to proceed with a case as well as ideas regarding what that person could expect from a suit.
